Businesses that have benefitted from the
Manufacturers Advantage Program

Jeff Jacobson, President
Jacobson Plastics

www.jacobsonplastics.com

“We have been in business for thirty-eight years and we are still growing. The Long Beach Manufacturers Advantage Program helped us incorporate recycling into our manufacturing. Their services were free. Their low-interest loan allowed us to:

  • expand from 65 to 85 employees,
  • purchase three new plastic-molding machines,
  • refinance existing equipment at below market, and
  • enhance our quality control office

...not to mention keeping 50 tons of plastic out of the landfill each year. The purchase of our new plastic molding machines will allow us to maintain our competitive edge.”

Ajit Perera, Plant Manager,
Talco Plastics

www.talcoplastics.com

“We recycle milk and water bottles into plastic pellets that our customers use to manufacture industrial and household bottles and containers. In 1993, The Long Beach Manufacturer Advantage Program helped us open our plant here in Long Beach, and in 1997, helped us expand. Their services were free and their low-interest loans allowed us to:

  • purchase equipment,
  • hire employees,
  • secure leasing agreements, and
  • upgrade our electrical system

...not to mention diverting 30 million pounds of plastic from landfills each year."

Amberwick Corporation
Mike Webster, President

www.amberwickcorp.com

Incorporated in 1976, the Amberwick Corporation offers industrial and hazardous waste transportation and recycling services. In 1997, the Long Beach Manufacturer Advantage Program was instrumental in helping Amberwick expand its facility and relocate to Long Beach with help from an $880,000 loan arranged through the City.

Typical materials transported and/or recycled by Amberwick include:

  • Used oil filters and waste oil
  • Paint and flammable materials
  • Acid and alkaline wastes
  • Clarifier and sump residues
  • Contaminated absorbents and soil
  • Laboratory packs
  • Medical wastes

“With the help of the Long Beach Manufacturer Advantage Program, we were able to find outstanding employees and take advantage of many tax benefits, which has made Amberwick more fiscally competitive. On initially locating to Long Beach, we collected and processed used oil filters, but have since expanded our business to include industrial and hazardous waste transportation and recycling services. However, we now only transport used oil filters.”

“Taking advantage of the benefits offered by the Manufacturer Advantage Program allowed us to continue with our core activities and expand into others. And that is healthy for the Long Beach environment and economy.”
